Final Remarks
There will be a time where every American will have to decide, where they want to see America in the next couple of years. Will they want to remain in a country ran by children in Washington or unite to let their voices be heard, by those who promised to listen. Change must occur, but it does not have to be radical. Simple steps go a long way.
The research across the different presidencies presented here, is a necessary step in popularizing an issue that majority of our humanity faces, especially when we moved to a more globalized and cosmopolitan reality. With the rapid development of technology, trade and traveling can be accomplished in matter of hours. Obtaining goods is easier than ever and traveling for business meetings occur at the daily. So why is it that goods can arrive in America instantaneously, but a family in Mexico in fear for their lives, has to wait almost 5 years to be let into a country. Are borders built to facilitate trade or they are meant to secure a country? Or can they be both? Whichever answer it is, it is clear which options we have valued thus far. As we continue to develop as a society, immigration will continue to happen whether the U.S wants it or not.
It is a movement that cannot be stopped, and if it is, then the glass of democracy shatters. The research has demonstrated how immigrants live in fear every four years because of the never-ending policy changes. One president will take office, they will place executive orders either hurting or helping the immigrants and as soon as another president takes office, he can revoke/reverse all the polices placed by his predecessor. It is an endless and unethical cycle; however, nothing is ever done to disrupt this cruel system.
The constitution legalizes the actions and protects the presidents while creating executive orders. While the constitution might be an obstacle in this particular situation it can also greatly help, in the favor for immigrants. The legislative branch has the power to create laws, laws that can live through administration changes. All it takes is for two sides to work together. The voters and the legislators. But only the people can truly make the difference. If people stand together and consistently request for change, lawmakers have no choice but to listen. Because at the end of the day, the people elect them.
It started with an attack. It continued with advance security. It followed by the detainment of families, and it ended with family separation. Events that occurred during the last 3 administration prior to 2020. The lives of immigrants continue to change after each alteration, and so, they can never live in peace. This is what the people of America will see and hopefully action will be taken While this may not seem as an urgent issue, it is an issue. There will never be a right time to fix this issue because problems are always occurring. This issue has constantly persisted throughout America’s history, and so it is time the U.S improves its immigration system. It has taken to long for a challenging yet simple solution. So, the thing to remember, is that small steps go a long way.
